Save Lives! Save Yemen!

Since 2014, the conflict that has killed and injured over 18,400 civilians, Yemen remains the largest humanitarian crisis in the world.

Yemen is experiencing the world’s worst food security crisis with 20.1 million people—nearly two-thirds of the population—requiring food assistance at the beginning of 2020. Almost 2.3 million children under the age of five face acute malnutrition, of whom about 400,000 face severe acute malnutrition (SAM). More than 15.4 million people urgently need assistance to access water, sanitation, and hygiene services. Approximately 20.1 million people need assistance to access health services, including 4.8 million women.

Yemen’s economy has been ravaged by years of conflict. Millions of people in Yemen have lost their income due to business closures and some working in the public sector have not received their full salaries regularly, leading to increased poverty. Millions of civilians in Yemen depend on humanitarian aid.

A joint report by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has found that the conflict in Yemen has resulted in the displacement of some 3,154,572 people, of which 2,205,102 remain displaced across the country and some 949,470 have attempted to return home. Prolonged displacement had adversely impacted the communities hosting uprooted populations, substantially increasing pressures on already scarce resources. The majority of those displaced, some 62 percent, are being hosted by their family and friends while others are using unsuitable shelters. The primary challenges continued to be the essentials: food, shelter and drinking water.
